One of the advantages of moving engines from renpy (a 2D engine) to unity (a 3D engine) is that I can get to dive back into Blender 3D.
Now, I know that there is other 3D software out there and that people seem to really loathe the interface of Blender, but i can’t help but love the software, and not only because it is open source.
Blender is one of the most versatile pieces of software out there and the amount of passionate tutorials on the market for Blender is over the moon great.
If you haven’t yet, download it, it’s fucking great.

Would probably explain why sfm gets more flak. If people don't like using something based on its 'ease of use,' it's less likely to be used to just take assets from others and all that. So it's basically the difference between Linux and iOS or rather Android and iPhone. Sure, Apple makes things that do what you need it to for the average person (given it's also ridiculously expensive to boot), but for the more "passionate" (for lack of a better word) you find something like Linux that doesn't hide that you can really do a whole lot more and gives you the ease of doing it that way, in its own sense.
It's good to know. Maybe I should look up some of those tutorials to see the creation at work.
